Litterbox-Train Your Dog?!  Sure..it's easy as 1-2-3!

Frequently Asked Questions

Is it difficult to train a dog to use a litter box?
Dogs are smart and they can easily be trained to use a litter box. Successful results, however, are dependent on you, the trainer.

How will I litterbox-train my dog?
With each GracieLooTM, a copy of "Gracie's Training Manual" is included.  This will teach you, step by step, how to litterbox-train your dog.

Gracie & Co. also provides ongoing customer support to you.  You can always reach us - by phone, live customer support on our website, or email.  With 15 years' canine litterbox-training experience, we speak from knowledge and not theory.

Do I actually use cat litter in the GracieLooTM?
You have your choice of options with the GracieLooTM.  Choose the option that works best for you and your dog.

- Yes, you may use cat litter.  I have used clumping cat litter in Gracie's personal GracieLooTM for 10 years.  This litter not only absorbs liquid waste, but also forms a solid clump that is easily scooped.
- Optionally, you may use litters made of recycled green materials such as pine, wheat, compressed newspaper pellets,
or ground corncobs.  These litters will absorb liquid waste, but will not clump.

I have heard that clay cat litter, especially clumping litter, is dangerous for dogs and cats - is this true?
There are conflicting reports concerning clay litters  - their potential toxicity and their potential to cause respiratory illness.  I refer to the ASPCA website (American Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals) for this answer:

Many scoopable cat litters contain bentonite clay and/or
silica. The clumping component of kitty litter, sodium
bentonite, is a naturally occurring clay mineral that is
considered to be biologically inert when ingested. Silica
is also a physically and chemically inert substance
, and
is a major component found in ordinary sand.  Silica,
therefore, is also not considered to be toxic. In our
experience (ASPCA), pets ingesting small amounts of
silica may develop only mild gastrointestinal upset, if any
    signs develop at all.

Many cat litters that contain silica are processed in
such a way to remove as much of the fine dust as
possible.  If you find that you or your dog is particularly
    sensitive
to airborne dust particles, you may wish to
consider using an alternate form of litter.

This does not address a few dogs who may ingest large amounts of litter because of their habit of consuming solid waste.  Any large amount of a non-food substance has the potential to cause digestive problems.  If this occurs, there are products on the market that deter this habit.

How do I clean the GracieLooTM?

Cleaning the GracieLooTM is a breeze.

- Unlike other products on the market, there are no trays to empty of collected urine; no grids to rinse; and no artificial grass to clean.
- If you use clumping litter, simply scoop solid & liquid wastes into a "poop bag" and discard.  Add more clumping litter when needed.
- If you use other litters, scoop solid waste and discard.  Replace all litter weekly or bi-monthly.
- Occasionally clean vertical surfaces with disinfecting wipes.

When shopping for a dog litter box, remember that YOU will be the one to clean it - unless you have a really smart dog who knows how to clean.  Do you really want to be emptying trays of urine, rinsing grids, and cleaning dog waste out of artificial grass as other products require you to do?

Will my dog track litter onto my floor from the GracieLooTM?
Cleanup outside the GracieLooTM is minimal.

Dogs are not agile as cats, so when they exit a litter box they may inadvertently track litter onto your floor.  Unlike other products, the taller back and sides of the GracieLooTM keep the litter inside.  Placing a little mat at the entrance will catch litter that may be tracked over the threshold.  Gracie & Co. will soon introduce a non-skid, anti-track mat for the GracieLooTM.

How durable is the GracieLooTM?
Made of high-quality thermoplastic ABS, your search for quality construction and a durable product ends with the GracieLooTM.

Gracie has personally used her GracieLooTM for 10 years.  It is completely functional and it still looks brand-new.  The purchase of a GracieLooTM is a lasting investment over the life of your little dog.

What is Gracie & Co.'s return policy?
- Within 10 days after receipt of any product, you may return unused product for reimbursement when you pay return shipping costs.

- If return is because of a manufacturer's defect, you receive 100% reimbursement, including shipping costs.
